About Us

Cape Flats Youth Development Programmes was established on 29th January 2017 by our Chief Executive Officer, Ester Wollenschlaeger-Uys, to serve the youth of the informal settlement of Capricorn/Vrygrond area in relevant ways.

Cape Flats Youth Development Programmes is passionate about making a difference to disadvantaged and at-risk Primary school learners.

We believe quality interventions should be holistic in nature, which is why we focus on both the academic and psycho-social development of the child.

Our Academic Portfolio provides literacy (The Jolly Phonics one hour program) and numeracy intervention to underperforming Grade 2 and 3 learners, to enable them to keep up with the academic curriculum.

Our Life skills Portfolio provides, teenage awareness as well as workshops on Gender-based Violence program, consisting of the six pillars, (a): Accountability, Coordination and Leadership, (b) Prevention and rebuilding the social Cohesion, (c) Justice, Safety and Protection,

 (d) Response, Care, Support and Healing, (e) Economic Power, (f) Research and information Management. Our programs aim to equip learners to thrive in the face of the challenges of their context and adolescence, and become active citizens

Our Welfare program, provides youth affected by violence, in their homes, community or schools with group work as well as individual counselling. Our Social Worker will do a home visit where there are allegations of abuse. We promote positive parenting to support the parent and child relationship for effective, holistic development. We do this by offering training, counselling and support to all parents and families- whether you are a single parent going through a teenage pregnancy, struggling with the dynamics of a blended family, or just need general parenting advice and support. We collaborate with a myriad of individuals, professionals, non-profits, government departments, educational institutions, and philanthropists, who are concerned about parents, children and families.
