One of our success stories
JOSH Abrahams
Josh aged 11, was never placed into a school. The biological mother was in prison and the child had to take care of his siblings. Child was placed in Grade 4, during June 2023, and not able to write his own name and surname. Josh was placed into our programme six months thereafter in 2023. Child is eager to learn and is now able to write his own name and surname. And able to count in 2’s. he has just developed in our numeracy and literacy programme- he was classified ‘At Risk’ with an entry assessment mark of only 6% and with just 6 months of intervention we saw a 30% improvement with his assessment mark of 36%. This is slow progress but we have seen massive improvements, especially with our assistive numeracy and literacy technology, child finds it easier to work with the technology compared to a reader which he finds challenging. “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop” Confucius”
PETER
Peter: Aged 9, started on our programme in Grade 2 and in 6 months he moved from ‘At Risk’ to ‘Near Level’ – an amazing 58% increase, when learners not on our programmes only saw an average increase of 24%. With the support of Cape Flats Youth Developments Support we are confident he will be meeting the curriculum requirements in no time.
